May 2010

It’s been long since I last continued from my Korea trip, but here it is :D

On our 4th day in Korea, we decided to explore our way to Everland, it is a theme park, with the world’s largest wooden roller coaster!

Streets of Seoul

Exiting from Gangnam Exit 6 (subway station), we began our journey finding our way to Everland.

The roads in Korea are huge and there are bus stops in the middle lane. Therefore it is really hard to find a certain bus stop unless you know the way in and out.

We had to ask some strangers for direction because we walked for 15 mins and still could not find the bus stop to Everland. It was tough as it was either most people did not understand us, or they did not know how to explain to us.

Bus 5002 to Everland

And finally 30 mins later we found it! The bus 5002 that goes Everland.

5002 Bus to Everland

Hello bus 5002. We only waited for less than 5 mins for the bus to arrive.

Inside the bus

As early as 11am in the morning on a week day, the road was packed and all the vehicles moved closely with each other.

After about an hour’s of bus ride, we finally reached our destination! Although it was sunny, it was also windy and quite cold.

Everland grand entrance

We were excited to explore the place we have read so much in the booklet.

What greeted us was a sea of tulips! Pretty! It felt so blissful to see colorful flowers at that moment, totally lightened up our day already.

stalls selling cute hats

Then we saw some stalls selling really cute hairbands. I didn’t get any though because it was quite useless..and not so cheap! (Don’t judge me!)

I am so happy to announce that finally all the hectic times have ended for now.

Guess who’s the expert in making bak zhang (rice dumpling) now?

Me

Of course it’s me!

2 weeks ago, I had the chance to attend a hands-on workshop of making rice dumplings at Nikko Hotel.

Ingredients for bak zhang

Our work station.

All the ingredients have been prepared for us! We all know gathering and buying ingredients are the hardest part of cooking.

Roasted duck, scallops and other ingredients

Closer look at the ingredients.

We have roasted duck, scallops, yolk of salted egg, glutinous rice, mushrooms and etc. And of course the lotus leaves!

Now you know it is going to be a huge one right?

Wrap all the ingredients in the lotus leaves..and tie!

Hiakz! My production.  Sorry I don’t have pictures of adding ingredients as my hands were too dirty to hold my camera.

All the huge dumplings will have to be cooked for seven (7!) hours before they are edible. So I did not get to taste the one I made, I broke the lotus leaves anyway…

Toh Lee Restaurant @ Nikko Hotel

Then we adjourned to Toh Lee ( Chinese Restaurant ) to get a taste of the dumplings prepared by the smashing skillful Chef Lo.
