Ever since Sushi Zanmai made its way to 1u and The Gardens, it has been my staple place for quick and affordable fix for Japanese cravings.

This new Japanese restaurant in The Gardens – Hokkaido Ichiba (In Mandarin it says Hokkaido Market), is here to beat Sushi Zanmai!

It is located on the top floor on The Gardens mall.

It can get REALLY crowded during lunch and dinner time, especially on the weekends.

Salmon Salad @ RM18 as the appetizer.

Portion is quite big and it came with the dressing at the side.

They have menu for set lunches, and it is about RM5-RM10 cheaper than set dinner.

Not sure about the portion though.

What I have here is Beef Sukiyaki @ RM30. It can even be shared too!

It came with a rice, raw egg for you to dip, fruits, chawan mushi, miso soup, and mashed potato and some pickles.

Yum! Check out the overloaded beef! When it came it was still slightly raw and perfect for the egg dip. Smooth and silky.

In fact, this is one of the most-generous serving of meat I have ever had in Sukiyaki in any restaurant.

They even have an extensive menu of desserts too.

Chocolate ice cream waffle @ RM8.80. Love the waffle.

It is quite a huge restaurant with ample dining tables.

I will definitely be back there again to try the other items on the menu, I think even with 10 visits, I still won’t be able to taste ALL on the menu.

Ever since I tried the Shabu-Shabu in Nagomi, I have quite liked the place and been there at least few times already.

My last visit, and to my shock, they revamped and renovated the place already! Perhaps it is the new management as read on JasonMumble’s blog?

The new place – without the sunken in hole for shabu-shabu pots.

They now have the induction cooker at the table top.

Flipping through the menu, I spent a good 15 mins staring at it not knowing what to eat. So, I decided to try something else rather than the same shabu-shabu all the time.

My Mentaiko with Rice in Clear Soup @ RM14.90.

If you want to eat something like, this is quite recommended, however, the portion is a little too small.

So, I order a set of teppanyaki beef @RM19.90 to go with my rice.

Yum! Thinly sliced beef is easily cooked, you just need a few secs. I love it when it reaches this stage.

Then, we ordered a slice of Matcha Tiramisu @ RM10+- as dessert.

However, I find that the green tea flavor is quite disappointing as it is not so fragrance as how it should be.

Overall, I still like this place. I somehow wish they had not changed the menu though

When I go for buffet, I always have this dilemma: Chinese or Japanese?

Peking duck?

Or Unagi?

You see, when I go for Japanese, I think about Chinese food. But when I go dimsum, I think about Unagi.

Life is full of decisions.

When I came to know about the 2 in 1 buffet @ Nikko Hotel KL, I saw the light of solving my dilemma.

Hello Benkay Japanese Restaurant!

When you step into Benkay, you can also order Chinese dishes such as dimsum etc from the 2 in 1 menu.

Once you step into the restaurant, you can see some Japanese settings on your left.

o

I couldn’t wait to tour the food a bit. The appetizers/salad/oysters/desserts are all served outside the restaurant, plenty of space to move about.Nice!

Some of the chinese appetizers are served in small cute bowls for you to try out.

The teppanyaki section is full of big prawns/beef/lamb!

The tempura section is next to the hot plate.

The sushi and sashimi bar. I love the varieties!

Too bad I do not have a picture of the sashimi, it was so so fresh!

There are huge selections of food, but I shall introduce you my favorites

Sauteed Scallop with Black Pepper and Onion.

Say HELLO to my plate of scallops!

One thing awesome about this buffet is, all the dishes are made to order. So all of them are served fresh and hot!

Sauteed Beef with Ginger and Spring Onions.

The beef was tender and soft, and juicy! Gosh I am starting to miss the food already.

Appetizers: from salmon, codfish, tempura, garlic squid, oysters.

I am a huge fan of strawberries. And of course huge strawberries! Gosh, look at the size O_o

The dessert bar has quite a decent selection of cakes, pastries to fruits.

The 3 types of ice cream to choose from: Green tea, black sesame, and vanilla.

I am not a fan of black sesame, or anything to do with sesame. But I braved to try a little, it was smooth and creamy. Still prefer the green tea though.

Good food is meant to be shared! We celebrated Sidney’s mom birthday last week in ENJU Prince Hotel. She is a lovely and very cool lady. How many mothers do you know will enjoy Japanese food?

Spot Chef Thomas in the picture!

Craving for some fresh sashimi?

Check out the fine texture of each slice of sashimi

For appetizers, I am not sure about the name but I heard this is different appetizers will be served on daily basis. It is actually fried chicken fillet.

Tatami iwashi @ RM8.

It is made of cuttlefish, crispy, and non oily at all! Perfect to go with sake.

ENJU Dynamite roll @ RM22.

Oh dear, have you ever seen any sushi ONLY with sashimi and not the rice? The dynamite roll almost sent me to heaven! I love sashimi!!! And the new ala carte menu is actually very affordable.

Here comes the sake!

Ichinokura Junmai Taruzake @ RM50/glass.

Ichinokura Junmai Taruzake is actually hot sake. And one should never pour the sake directly out from the bottle, you should transfer it into a container, then only pour it out. The container you see on the above is known as a glass.

Sawanoi Daikarakuchi Junmai @ RM45.

The cold sake.

Awww love the glass! Somehow reminded me of my chemistry lesson back in secondary school.

Which do I like the most…? Hmmm I prefer hot sake.

Gindara tamagoyaki @ RM40.

See the glazy black cod? The texture is so so smooth and soft! It is gone in a few seconds…..50% down my stomach! I show no mercy when it comes to fish.

Shake honey no potato salad yaki @ RM19.

More fish to my delight.

Sanma Shioyaki (秋刀魚) @ RM15

Although this fish is full of tiny bones, but it is actually contains high Omega 3 and lowwwwww in fat!

Guess what? I finished the fish…all on my own. The Omega3 I consumed that night has fulfilled my one year worth’s of quota already.

Rock & roll @ RM24.

Don’t you really love the name? Topped with mango, and prawn tempura rolled in the rice, it was a perfect combo.

Maguro tataki roll @ RM24.

I really love the fact that they are very generous with ingredients and reasonable price.

Gyunku kushiyaki @ RM15.

Yum yum grilled beef cube with pepper. The beef was just done nice, not overcooked.

Okonomi yaki @ RM30. The Japanese pizza.

It is like our fried carrot cake, but filled with prawns, tako, and the bonito flakes topping OMG! It is fun to see the flakes move sometimes.

Tori katsudon @ RM20.

Fried chicken on rice. Look at the generous amount of chicken! Crispy, tender, and love the soysauce mixed with rice.

Yaki udon @ RM24.

Love the udon! It is like hokkien mee, but the high-class hokkien mee.

See the big prawn? There were also scallops in the udon!

Santen Mori soba @ RM30.

The texture of each soba is different. And there is a raw egg along with the soba too. I tried mixing everything up together with the egg…it didn’t appear to be appetizing. So I think it is better just to eat each soba on its own.

And finally Ichigo Daifuku Strawberry mochi @ RM16 for dessert.

There is also a huge chunk of strawberry in the mochi. I love the strawberry! Not the mochi though… =/

Ahh what a foodful night.

If you are a frequent shopper in Plaza Damas, Mont Kiara, you probably have already seen this shop before.

Little did I know that, it is a nice cozy and romantic little place with great food!

The open kitchen style. You can see what they are cooking for you exactly!

And the very antique-looking cashier.

Why romantic you say?

Imagine bringing your date dining on this little romantic table, without breaking your bank.

Good idea right?

Thanks to Richard who introduced this to us, we enjoyed it very much that night

First dish served was Oven-Baked Seabass with Pesto Alla Genovese @RM16.90.

Looked good, tasted good!

Salmon Au Gratin @ RM18.90.

Being a fan of salmon, I really <3 this!

The super-star dish we all fought to eat – Nagoya Fried Chicken @ RM16.90.

Juicy, crispy and flavorful! YUMMY!

I am sorry that some of the food I have lost track of the names as I was too excited tasting the food hence the lack of memory space in my head already.

Delicious fish covered in sauces. I like the side dishes in all of the mains as they were just good to neutralize the taste after having the mains.

Soba the western style is a truly an interesting combination, soba was cooked just right, springy and drowned in sauces. Yummy!

I have forgotten the name of this dish… oops.

Japanese curry rice, with scrambled egg on top. One thing about Japanese curry is, it is sweet, and non spicy at all!

Japanese Garlic Spaghetti @ RM13.80.

I really love the sauce with the spaghetti, and the mushroom on the side.

And guess what?

Squid Ink Spaghetti @ RM19.80!

My first time having squid ink spaghetti and I think it was tasty!

Being quite different from the ordinary spaghetti, it has a unique taste than others don’t. I wonder if we can make this at home. Hehe I remember helping cleaning the squids she bought from market, I had to be very careful as not to burst the ink in the squid, little did I know that it could turn into as an ingredient!

Last but not least, Chicken Teriyaki Don @ RM13.50.

The chicken was really tasty and went well with gravy in rice. Imagine how the rice is wrapped and soaked with the gravy, and the aroma of chicken…yum!

The dining area. Not very huge but just nice for a date.

Wilson and Ken doing that thing.

If you ever drop by Plaza Damas, do pay this place a visit. Â You might be surprised!

Address: F-0-2, Plaza Damas, 60, Jln Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur. (03-6201 8648)

Last thursday, lucky me had the chance to pig out in Prince Hotel again, thanks to BigBoysOven. But, it’s Jap food this time!

The ENJU Japanese Restaurant on the first floor of Prince Hotel.

Once you step in, you can see the nice decor at the entrance.

And some origami on the table. I think i can never make an origami on my own. Before i could finish a head or a wing, I would have probably die of frustration.

Oh look! Our food is being decorated! I was really hungry when looking them preparing.

It is quite a neat arrangement for the tables and chairs.

Finally! The appetizer arrived! It was already 8pm and my stomach was drumming like crazy. ( I usually try to have my dinner at 6 or 7pm). The deep fried potato is crispy on the outside, soft and hot on the inside. Gosh, wish I could have more of this!!!

Introducing: The ladies’ set meal, with Gindara Terriyaki as main, the other supporting roles such as Hiyashi Somen (the noodles), Chawan Mushi (the steamed egg), Sushi Moriawase (the sushi palette), and Oshinko Moriwase (the pickles).

Price of the meal to be updated later.

The star:Â Gindara Terriyaki.

It is Alaskan black cod grilled with terriyaki sauce. The fish was fresh and juicy. And the meat was tender yet springy. Ahh! I love fish!!!!

Hiyashi Somen:Â You should dip the noodles in the shoyu sauce given.

Like this! yum! simple, and it is not fat! (at least i think). And oh, best to SLURRRP! The noodles will just glide down your throat smoothly.

Sushi Moriawase : Love the fresh sashimi! Usually, I like to soak my sushi in wasabi, and get the rush of wasabi filling up my nose and throat.

Look! The perky chef Thomas. Isn’t he cute?

It’s handroll time! Look at all the ingredients!! and gosh, the roes! <3

I DIY a handroll myself, it has to be the best handroll i have ever eaten so far. <3

At this point, all of us were really full already.

Look! Pretty lady serving desserts! Can you say no?

My orange sorbet. It is sorbet in orange skin. Very refreshing!! Love this!! But orange is the sour-est compared to the rest.

Lemon! I a ma big fan of lemon!!!

Apple sorbet! The best part of apple sorbet is: You can eat the skin together. No waste.

Last but not least, another humongous portion of sushi! We barely touched it, and best part is, i tapao-ed some home and had them for breakfast. Awesome!

Last last but not least, we had a surprise birthday for Sunny from BigBoysOven too! Look at the glow on his face! I wonder if he has been using flour or baking soda for facials. Why is it silky smooth?

After the cake cutting, it pretty much concluded our big night out. I went home….bloated.
