Fancy Mooncakes and Chinese Cuisines @ Golden Phoenix Chinese Restaurant – Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur
Posted by sloppychic under Chinese[14] Comments

Every year around this time, we will see many restaurants and shops launching their mooncake, and as the year goes by, the fancy designs never fail to surprise me.
Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur too has a range of interesting mooncake, and the boxes too!
Thanks to feedmelah.com, I had the chance to step my foot in Golden Phoenix Chinese Restaurant – Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur.
You see what I mean? Velvet mooncake box, I love the color combination and design! It is a twist of fashion and tradition.
I couldn’t stop caressing the velvety box.
And and, there is also a design which somewhat resemblances the Dim Sum basket. Love the luxurious feeling.
The variety of mooncakes is no joke , they have: German Black Forest @RM18.90, Pumpkin Taro @RM18.90, Charcoal-Bake Yam @RM18.90, Bamboo Hazelnut @RM18.90, Expresso Chestnut @RM18.90, Red Yeast Sweet Potato @RM17.90, and of course the traditional ones.
The traditional double-yolk moon cake.
The booth setup outside the restaurant for mooncakes. They too have low sugar ones, for the health concerned.
Appetizer: Ginseng Chicken Soup
After all the mooncakes sampling, it’s time to wash down the sweetness with the appetizer. True to the description, I went to the heaven after taking my first sip of the soup. I swear it is the best Ginseng Chicken Soup I have ever had! While the ginseng is very strong, it is not overwhelming to the point that it is bitter, and the sweetness from chicken just made it perfect.
Fook Lou Chou Fan (Special style of Fried Rice)
One of their specialties is this Rich Men Fried Rice. Every grain is coated with egg white (lower cholesterol) and fried with egg. On top of the rice, it is the scallop floss. However, I feel that this is a little dry, if only they used more oil…but that would totally defeat the purpose of health element in this dish.
Scallop and Mango
We were awe-struck by this dish when it was served..because you see the size of the scallop?
Accompanied by cooked mango, it is a very interesting combination.
The scallop is so huge that I would not say it is sweet, but the mango perfected the lack of sweetness of the scallop.
Next up, we had La Mien Si fu to demonstrate his La Mien making skill.
It seemed pretty easy. Just drag and twist, and there you go!
To our surprise, there was a La Mien Making Competition too!
And you know what? I think I have some hidden talent of making La Mien.
I even got #1! And the prize to me was a box of mooncakes. Yessssss..I now have a velvety box as my storage too <3
Special eggplant La Mian
La Mian specially prepared by the sifu is indeed special. Springy and flavorful La Mien accompanied by the generous portion of minced meat and egg plant, it was a delight.
Fried Beancurd Skin with Prawns
Juicy prawns wrapped by crispy beancurd skin, what’s there not to like about?
My favorite dessert of the day – Guai Leng Kou with Coconut
Boiled with rock sugar for hours, the coconut drink is the best drink to soothe sore throat on a hot day.
*Drumroll*
Durian puff! The durian skin is velvety smooth and soft, and the durian just melts in your mouth. Yummy!
The geniuses behind the wok.
Now, give your loved ones a treat at Golden Phoenix Chinese Restaurant, or lug a box of luxurious mooncakes for the festive.

The fried rice looked yummy. But the winner has got to be the durian roll. Love durians in cakes, pancakes etc.
I am not a fan of mooncakes but had some delicious durian mooncakes from Shangri-La Hotel recently.

Wow! I love mooncakes and their boxes! Haha! But I feel they are just too expensive!
I prefer snowskin mooncakes to the baked skin variety.
